With more and more North American children turning towards the Internet as their first (and often only) source of information, I wonder if the current design of public and school libraries will make these bastions of democracy less of an influence in the shaping of our children's democratic futures? Decreasing budgets make it hard for libraries to reach out electronically to these children. Really - REALLY - long user names (often 12 or more digit bar codes) make it hard for children to remember…
