Hi Sherri,
I'm playing catch up today and can't seem to access the second Kapitzke article-Whose Community? Any ideas? Also, Have you completed your second assignment - the curriculum plan for teaching new literacies?? Ohmygoodness!

Love your page Sherri and your picture! Where was it taken? Thanks for being my friend! Hope you're enjoying this course. We're on the "home stretch"!

When I go to your blog here on ibrary, it says you haven't posted anything yet. I know you have. There seems to be a problem. I ended up clicking "everyone' instead of "just me" when asked who can view my blog. Now I am getting responses from Dr. Asselin. However, the downside is that everythink I post now ends up on the front page of ibrary. Do you have any solutions?

Hi Sherri,
I see you are online at the same time this morning (Sunday, June 1st). I hope you are doing well. I'm having problems with my blog posts. I've had to change them so that "everyone" can see them in order for Dr. Asselin to view them. Are you having a similar problem?

About Me:
Now that I have a few minutes to update this....
I am a Cape Bretoner living on the other island! I've been on PEI since 2001 when I started my education degree. I currently live in Cornwall and teach at St. Teresa's Consolidated. I love to read and garden and have been spending every spare minute trying to do both!
School Name & Location
St. Teresa's Consolidated School
Teaching Assignment
Grade 1-6 math, 5/6 health, Reading Recovery (and lots of non teaching assignments!)
I've just found for sure that this will change in the fall. I will be teaching Grade 5/6 Language Arts, Science and Math as well as Grade 1/2 Math. I'm quite excited as this means I will finally have a classroom of my own...no more moving between 5 rooms throughout the day!
Favorite Authors/Illustrators
For my pleasure reading: John Grisham, Tess Gerristen, John Saul, John Sanford, Jonathan Kellerman and Dennis Lehane (or anyone else who writes a good medical/forensic/lawyer mystery with a psychological twist!)

For children's and young adult literature I love Lois Lowry (The Giver and the 2 other books that go along with it), Harry Potter, and Ann M. Martin. I'm also a big Robert Munsch fan as well as Eve Bunting and Eric Carle and Doreen Cronin and Mo Wilhems (i think the spelling is right!)
Best Things about our School Library
The resources are constantly being updated and are being used more and more.
My Hopes & Dreams for our School Library
To actually have some time allotted as a TL

Final Assignment

Overview:
My new literacy lesson will be an introduction to a new form of technology. All students need to play with their learning tools before they are expected to use them as tools (this I’ve learned from using manipulatives in math!) So this lesson will be short and sweet and guided but will hopefully introduce students to using the Audacity program to record their own cd of stories. This will be a school wide project for our June Literacy Day. This day focuses on students engaging in litera… Continue

Literacy in the new millennium

How has literacy changed? What is the function of literacy in the 21st century and how does it compare to the past? These are two questions that popped up in my mind throughout reading. How is different now and why? Change is inevitable that I know for sure. But where do these changes come from and how does this change take place. I was surprised to see that the change we are now in the midst of has been in formation for the past 15 to 20 years. Slowly changing to accommodate society. So why hav… Continue

Where will it all end?

Where will it all end?
This is a cute video I found that seems to reflect some of the questions we all seem to be asking - what effect will the new literacies have on our teaching and what changes will it make in our schools?
